Vítonice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The townscape of Vítonice includes religious buildings, local history, a stream landscape and viticulture. The history of the village is particularly vividly illustrated by several chapels within and outside the settlement.

Culture and History

On the hill above Vítonice, along the road to Hostěradice, stands a niche chapel registered as a cultural monument under number 48937/7-8337. Another chapel is located in the village square: it was built in 1937 and is dedicated to the Holy Cross.

Outside Vítonice in the direction of Želetice stands the niche chapel of the Holy Trinity. It was built around 1831 and extensively restored in 2007–2008. In the centre of Vítonice there is also the niche chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk. It was built in 1830 at the bridge over the Křepička stream near the road from Znojmo to Moravský Krumlov, rebuilt at its original location in 2013 and reconsecrated.

The written history of Vítonice dates back to 1341, when the village was first mentioned in writing.

Vítonice lies in the Dyjskosvratecký úval basin; the surrounding area is predominantly flat, especially in the Jevišovka region. The Křepický potok stream flows through the village. Along its course lies the 12-hectare municipal woodland of Akáty, which is predominantly characterised by acacia trees. Other trees growing there include black elder, conifers, fruit trees, willows and poplars.

Viticulture is also part of the local history. Rulandské bílé (Pinot blanc), a grape variety historically cultivated in the region, was selected for the vineyard in Vítonice. In 2021, the Vítonice winemakers decided to restore the historic Nad sklepy vineyard.

Faith and Remembrance

The pilgrimage in Vítonice takes place on the first Sunday in August. A special commemoration is dedicated to the flood of 5 August 1845, during which several houses in Vítonice collapsed. Every year on this day of remembrance, a procession of devout residents of Vítonice made its way to the church in Prosiměřice.

Getting Around

The main branch, Route I, of the Znojemská vinařská cycle route runs from Hrušovansko to Znojmo. The route passes predominantly through flat and hilly terrain and uses Class II and Class III roads as well as farm tracks.
