Valtrovice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Valtrovický luh Natura 2000 site of European importance lies within the cadastral area of Valtrovice. Protected habitats there include mixed ash-alder floodplain forests and mixed floodplain forests with oaks, elms and ashes. There are also well-preserved hardwood floodplain forests and wet areas with stands of alder.

Nature

The southern boundary of the cadastral area of Valtrovice is formed by the Dyje, which is lined with floodplain forests. The Meandry Dyje Natura 2000 site has been designated along the Dyje at the southern edge of the planning area of Valtrovice. At a ford near the municipality of Valtrovice, the river has high clay banks and successive meanders.

Culture

The parish church in Valtrovice is dedicated to Saint John the Baptist; its presbytery has a Late Gothic vault. Following a comprehensive reconstruction in 2013, the church won the Jihomoravský kraj competition in the same year for the best-restored cultural heritage site in the category of large structures.

The present-day vicarage in Valtrovice was founded on 4 March 1748 by Countess Marie z Althana, née Pignatelli. There is also a historically valuable chapel in Valtrovice on the way to the Dyje. The Valtrovický košt is one of the village’s traditional public cultural and social events.

Festivals

Masopust in Valtrovice takes place every year in February. It includes a masked procession through the entire municipality accompanied by a band, followed by an evening event.

The Krojované hody take place every year in September. They include a procession of the costumed group with a band through all of Valtrovice and an evening celebration. The Krojované hody are considered the largest cultural event of the municipality of Valtrovice. Saint Nicholas is celebrated in Valtrovice every year in December.

Water and Routes

In recent years, a water tourism offering has begun to develop in Valtrovice. Equipment can be rented and paddling can then take place on the Dyje between Znojmo and the Nové Mlýny Waterworks.

Road II/408 is the main transport artery of Valtrovice.
