Bítov: Holiday apartments and houses

Bítov Castle stands at the confluence of the Želetavka and Dyje rivers. The castle was a royal fortress that protected the southern border of the state from incursions from Austria.

Culture and history

Cornštejn Castle also combines historical traces with an engaging presentation: its underground rooms house a themed exhibition showing what medieval castle cellars looked like and how they were used. In the Obora forest area, there is also a stone pavilion known as the “Rotunda”. It is a fragment of a Neo-Gothic hunting pavilion from the 19th century.

Exploring the area

The Jindřich Daun educational trail begins in Chvalatice and ends at Bítov Castle. It has six stops, takes about two hours to visit, is classified as easy, and can be visited year-round.

A route leads from Bítov Castle to Cornštejn Castle. Cornštejn Castle can be reached on foot from Bítov; access from the reservoir bridge follows a road and a forest path and is 400 m long.

Nature and water

Cornštejn Castle is surrounded by a nature reserve of the same name. It protects preserved forest stands, rocks, and scree slopes.

The natural outdoor swimming area in Horka Bay offers the opportunity to rent boats and pedal boats.

Local character

Since autumn 2015, Czech lagers have been brewed at Hasičský pivovar Bítov in the premises of a former fire station using traditional brewing technology. Groups can book a guided brewery tour with a tasting of Tesák beer; all the brewing equipment is displayed in the taproom.

The Bítov cycling loop route Pivovarská 12 attracts not only cyclists but also hikers and recreational athletes who go jogging.
