Hostim: Apartments and Holiday Homes

Hostim lies in the gently rolling landscape of the Jevišovická pahorkatina and near the historic Haberská stezka, later also known as Císařská cesta. A church in Hostim is documented as early as 1394.

Culture and History

The chateau in Hostim is a detached, four-winged masonry building arranged around a trapezoidal courtyard. Access is via a brick bridge over the moat surrounding the building and the adjacent farm buildings.

The Bukovina castle ruins in Hostim stand above the Nedveka stream on the site of a stone castle that was the seat of the Lords of Bukovina in the first half of the 14th century. The Bukovina castle ruins are also located in the immediate vicinity of Hostim: this castle complex, with a keep-plan layout and residential tower, has survived in fragmentary form from the period between the 14th century and the first half of the 15th century.

The Chapel of the Holy Cross in Hostim cemetery was built in 1809 by Countess Eleonora de Meraviglia, the owner of the local estate; she is also buried there. As a valuable example of late Baroque funerary architecture with Classicist details, it is a defining building of the significant historic cemetery complex.

Other historic traces include the former brewery complex in Hostim, a fully preserved example of rural economic architecture in South Moravia, as well as a group of five wayside shrines in the vicinity of Hostim, which provide valuable evidence of small-scale folk religious architecture. The rectory in Hostim is a monumental, two-storey Classicist building of considerable art-historical value.

The Baroque granary in Hostim dates from the 18th century and is one of the few surviving multi-storey grain stores. At the same time, it is a significant architectural landmark on the hill above the village. The village square is home to the statue of St John of Nepomuk, a high-quality small-scale High Baroque religious sculpture with a pedestal.

The former Radkovský water mill still retains part of its mill race and is one of the few surviving mills built on watercourses in the open countryside.

Cycle Routes

The “Jevišovicko in the Footsteps of Raduit de Souches” cycle route passes through Hostim. The Jevišovický Circuit I is a circular cycling route that runs through Jevišovice, Olbramkostel and Hostim.
