Vrbovec: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Vrbovec combines a wine-growing tradition with a history of churches and chapels, as well as a significant wetland. Between the wine trail, the wine cellar lane and historic religious buildings, the town reveals itself in many different facets.

Wine

The Hroznové kozy wine trail is 5 km long. The wine-growing landscape also includes Sklepní ulička in Vrbovec: a row of around 260 wine cellars along the road towards Znojmo, about 1 km from the town.

Winegrowing is associated with its own events. Odemykání naučné stezky Hroznové kozy is an annual spring event featuring wine tasting and the carrying of the billy goat into the vineyard. At the Vrbovecké vinobraní 2025, the end of the grape harvest was celebrated on the last Saturday in October in the U kapličky vineyard, in Sklepní ulička and in open cellars.

History

A short walk outside Vrbovec leads to the Chapel of Saint Bartholomew, which was built in 2022. A festival takes place in the immediate vicinity of the chapel in the second half of August, around the feast day of Saint Bartholomew, and includes Zarážení hory.

The Church of the Beheading of Saint John the Baptist has an old Romanesque predecessor. After a fire in 1727, it was rebuilt from 1747 onwards and consecrated on 27 June 1767. Its furnishings include three bells from the 17th and 18th centuries; the oldest dates from 1626.

The Chapel of Panny Maria Pomocné is located in Ječmeniště, within the cadastral area of Vrbovec. It is the last surviving monument of a vanished wine-growing village in the South Moravian border region.

Nature

Vrbovecký rybník is the most significant wetland in the Znojmo area. At the same time, it is a regionally to supra-regionally significant locality for the fire-bellied toad.
