Pavlov U Dolních Věstonic: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Dolní Věstonice–Pavlov Archaeological Trail is a 4.1-kilometre hiking trail of moderate difficulty with five stations. In Pavlov, such trails combine with archaeological remains, historic wine cellars and a distinctive landscape around Děvín.

Trails and Landscape

The Děvín educational trail runs through the Děvín National Nature Reserve, a prominent landscape feature of the Pavlov Hills. Marked hiking trails provide access from Dolní Věstonice and Pavlov. There are parking facilities at both of these locations for the walk around Děvín, as well as bus connections.

Archaeology

On the outskirts of Pavlov lies the Archeopark Pavlov, a modern open-air exhibition on the site of an Upper Palaeolithic settlement that was declared a national cultural monument in 2010. The Archeopark presents the material culture, art, rituals and burial rites of hunter-gatherers who lived in the region 25,000 to 30,000 years ago.

Visitors to the Archeopark Pavlov can also walk alongside an exposed section of an accumulation of mammoth bones. Following archaeological examination, this section was preserved in its original location.

History

Děvičky Castle was built around 1222 as a guard castle to protect the route leading inland from Austria. Another historical testimony is preserved by the wine-cellar houses on Česká Street: the ground floor contains entrances to the pressing room and cellar, while the upper floor contains living quarters.

Wine and Cellars

At the Obecní vinotéka Pavlov, visitors can sit in two vaulted rooms and taste wines from 15 producers from Pavlov and the surrounding area. During the Summer of Open Cellars, Pavlov winemakers have been inviting wine lovers for several years to discover wines from Pavlov in historic wine cellars at their place of origin.

The Mikulov Wine Educational Trail is suitable for road bikes and trekking bikes and leads to Pavlov, where remarkable cellar architecture can be seen.
