Týnec combines a registered pilgrimage church with a legend and traditional village festivals.

Culture and History

The Pilgrimage Church of the Beheading of Saint John the Baptist in Týnec is registered as a cultural monument. The church was built in the third quarter of the 18th century. Next to a chapel on the edge of the village stands a commemorative oak tree with an image of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. The chapel beneath the oak was built in 1891; a legend is associated with the image of Our Lady of Perpetual Help on the oak.

Traditions

The main pilgrimage in Týnec takes place on the Feast of the Beheading of Saint John the Baptist on 29 August. The traditional Hody “pod zeleným” are considered the most important social event in the village of Týnec. They take place at the beginning of September after the Feast of the Beheading of Saint John the Baptist. Around 80 to 100 unmarried young men and women in traditional costumes take part in the Hody.

Cycling Route

The 31-kilometre cycling route from Břeclav to Hodonín passes through Týnec. The cycling route from Břeclav to Hodonín via Týnec runs through flat terrain against the current of the Morava.
