Sedlec U Mikulova: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Sedlec is located in the Pálava Protected Landscape Area and the Dolní Morava Biosphere Reserve under the auspices of UNESCO. Slanisko u Nesytu, which borders the western shore of Nesyt Pond, is located directly beside Sedlec.

Nature

Slanisko u Nesytu covers almost seven hectares and is considered the largest salt marsh in the Czech Republic. Among other plants, the area is home to the yellow-flowering Hadí mord maloúborný, Panonská hvězdnice and Solenka Valerandova.

Wetland plants grow in the reed beds of Nesyt; greylag geese, grebes and ducks regularly breed there. Nesyt is the only pond in the Lednice pond system whose banks have preserved their natural vegetation.

Skalky consists of numerous fossilised bodies of single-celled bryozoans and algae of the genus Litothamnium, which lived in a prehistoric ocean. Skalky is covered by a flower-rich feather-grass steppe where rare plants as well as birds, praying mantises and smooth snakes can be observed.

The confluence of three streams is a significant natural attraction in the vicinity of Sedlec.

Culture and History

Portz Island was the centre of an extensive composed landscape on the Moravian-Austrian border. The area of Portz Island was also part of a composed landscape near the town, which Cardinal Dietrichstein had created in the 17th century.

The historic brick bridge at Portz Island has 15 arches, has been restored and opened to visitors. As part of the Portz Island project, an educational trail with six information panels and rest areas was created.

A statue of Saint John of Nepomuk dating from 1717 stands on the road from Sedlec to Portzský mlýn. The Church of St Vitus was rebuilt in the Baroque style and rededicated to Saint Vitus in 1672. Panská sýpka has been an exceptionally large-scale Baroque cultural monument since 1966. The history of Sirné lázně dates back to 1362.

Wine

The Vinařství Sedlec cellar tour includes explanations of the winery's history, its vineyards and grape processing. Vinařský dům Sedlec offers guided wine tastings to the public, not only to guests of the guesthouse. The Degustační sklep at Vinařský dům Sedlec is open to the public during the summer holidays.

The Festival Sedleckých vín is considered an annual tradition featuring wine tastings and a cultural programme. On 5 July 2026, it will take place from 10 a.m. on the winery premises by Nesyt Pond. Sedlecké vinobraní is considered a traditional autumn event featuring grape pressing, wine tastings and gastronomic specialities.
