The Lednice-Valtice Cultural Landscape harmoniously combines cultural monuments from successive eras with native and exotic natural elements. The most important architectural ensembles in this cultural landscape include Lednice and Valtice châteaux with extensive parks.

Culture and Architecture

Lednice Chateau acquired its romantic Neo-Gothic appearance through a reconstruction carried out between 1846 and 1858. The Lednice riding hall is the oldest surviving part of the original Lednice château grounds. The Moorish water tower in the Lednice complex was completed in autumn 1843.

The Lednice minaret is just under 60 metres high and is one of the tallest structures of its kind in Europe. The highest gallery is reached via a self-supporting spiral stone staircase with 302 steps. The minaret comprises eight rooms richly decorated with Oriental ornaments on the ceilings, walls and floors.

The Palm House in Lednice is 92 metres long, 13 metres wide and 7.5 metres high. Visitors can explore it independently and without a guide, including its tropical and subtropical plants.

Special Insights

The fourth tour through the underground of Lednice Chateau leads through an artificial grotto beneath the château. The underground tour includes historic technical installations such as original massive heating boilers, a historic electrical control room and a boiler for heating water. Janohrad was built as a hunting lodge near a game reserve.

Nature and Trails

Lednice Chateau Park is freely accessible every day from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. In the vicinity of Lednice, the Lednické rybníky educational trail runs around the ponds and has 17 stops.

Cycle Route 5045 runs through the Lednice-Valtice Area and leads from Lednice to Valtice. Cycling is strictly prohibited throughout Lednice Chateau Park.
