Culture and history

In Ladná, the Church of St. Michael the Archangel is an independent and distinctive work characteristic of the period of the rule of Jan II of Liechtenstein. The architect Karl Weinbrenner designed it in the Neo-Romanesque style; it was consecrated on 13 October 1914.

The Chapel of St. Michael was built in 1849 at the expense of the municipality and the local farmer Jan Holub. It is a rectangular building with a four-sided bell tower and characteristic classical, antiquising façade features. The chapel commemorates the abolition of compulsory labor in 1848.

The first written mention of the Ladná mill dates back to 1334. It was a mill with eight wheels. It was purchased and restored by KOVO Prudík in 1999–2000.

Near Ladná, the Liechtensteins established a hunting facility at the end of the 17th century for catching waterfowl, especially wild ducks; it was no longer used before the Second World War. The historic complex included a rectangular pond measuring 128 × 120 metres, with its own inlet and outlet. The Boží muka date from around the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries.

Nature and landscape

The western part of Ladná’s cadastral area consists of a broad Dyje floodplain with floodplain forests, meadows, wetlands and oxbow lakes. It lies on the edge of the artificially designed landscape of the Lednice-Valtice area. Parts of the Niva Dyje Site of Community Importance and the Niva Dyje Nature Park belong to the cadastral area of Ladná.

Trails

A yellow-marked hiking trail runs along the western edge of Ladná’s cadastral area on the route Podivín žel. stanice–Ladenský most–Janův hrad–Lovecký zámeček–Lednice. The Velkopavlovická cycling route also runs along the western edge of Ladná’s cadastral area.
