Hrušky forms part of the historic core of the lower, also known as southern, Podluží region.
Landscape
Hrušky lies in a flat, only locally hilly landscape at an elevation of 175 metres. The Svodnice II watercourse flows along the southeastern edge of Hrušky.
Getting around
The Podlužím wine cycle route running through Hrušky can be started at Hrušky railway station on the Břeclav–Přerov railway line. The Podlužím wine cycle route is considered suitable for cyclists who want to avoid climbs wherever possible.
History
In front of the local school in Hrušky stands a memorial to those who fell in the First World War, bearing the names of fallen residents; it was erected in 1925. The municipality later known as Hrušky was first mentioned in writing in 1294. Hrušky railway station was established in 1911 and is located about 2 kilometres from the village.
Culture
The Bartolomějské hody festivities in Hrušky take place on the last or penultimate Sunday in August. At the autumn event “Putování po sklepech”, visitors can move between the open wine cellars of local winemakers and taste older wines as well as young wines from the current harvest.
The former Mlýn Hrušky mill has an industrial-style interior and is now used as a bistro, wine shop and café. At the “Ochutnávka vín a sýrů Hrušky 2026” event, wines from local winemakers, as well as wines from the Podluží region and other Moravian wine-growing areas, are offered together with a selection of cheeses from small family dairies and cheese makers.
The “Za vinařem na skleničku” event opens the cellars of participating winemakers in Hrušky to visitors on a set date, allowing them to taste wine there.
