The history of Čejč reaches far back at the Church of St. Vendelín: it is mentioned as early as 1222 and was consecrated in 1257. Its main altar features a Baroque retable with a painting of its patron saint, St. Vendelín, dated to 1731 in the chronogram.
Nature and Landscape
The Pod Dráhou Biocentre comprises three ponds with a total area of nearly 1 ha, which serve to retain water in the landscape. At the same time, it provides a habitat for numerous plant and animal species, including insects, birds and reptiles.
At the edge of Čejč, the Heliga sulphur spring rises from a stone well. Another trace in the landscape is formed by the Výchoz natural monument: the artificial exposure was created by sand and lignite mining on the wooded slopes of the former “Čejčské jezero” lake. This exposure contains fossil shells of the snail Melanopsis posterior and the bivalve Congeria ornithopsis.
Culture and History
In the Lúčky district of Čejč, the Chapel of St. Vendelín stands at the intersection of three roads; it is partly shaded by a centuries-old lime tree. The memorial plaque commemorating the Jewish citizens of Čejč recalls that 49 people from Čejč were deported to concentration camps and six survived.
Wine
The open wine cellars event is held regularly at Pod Búdama. It is open to the general public and is complemented by social gatherings and conversations about wine with local winemakers. The Pod Búdama wine cellar complex also attracts visitors with its picturesque appearance and distinctive atmosphere.
Routes and Connections
An approximately 600 m long paved country road leads to the Pod Dráhou Biocentre. The route along the railway to Mutěnice was upgraded with an asphalt surface in 2024, making it possible to travel conveniently and safely from Čejč via Mutěnka all the way to Kyjov.
