Val: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Val is situated on the Nežárka River at the northwestern edge of the Třeboňsko Protected Landscape Area. The Nadějská soustava European protected area includes the cadastral territory of Val u Veselí nad Lužnicí.

Nature

The Nadějská soustava protected area includes depressions formed by boggy subsoil, as well as habitats of the ash longhorn beetle and the otter. The undeveloped floodplain of the Lužnice and Nežárka rivers, together with the Nadějská soustava, are among Val’s most important natural assets.

The V Luhu Nature Reserve is also located in the cadastral territory of Val u Veselí nad Lužnicí. It protects an oak forest ecosystem with preserved oxbows and floodplain pools. The Rod Nature Reserve is publicly accessible along its southern and western shores via the pond dams; during the spring and autumn migrations, waterfowl regularly gather there, while in winter it is regularly a refuge for white-tailed eagles.

Culture and History

Val is historically documented as early as 1413. The historic village centre has a preserved layout and surviving farmstead structures. These include farmsteads with gables facing the street and houses arranged around a pond. To the north, this is joined by development along both sides of the road, also with gables facing the street.

Val’s architectural assets include the Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk and the Chapel of Saint Wenceslas in the meadows. The Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk is listed in the state register of heritage protection under number 22734/3-5084. The chapel on Val’s village square is one of the immovable cultural monuments taken into account in the local plan.

Activities

When water levels are good, the Nežárka is used by water sports enthusiasts for paddling. The flat landscape of the Třeboň Basin, with its forests and ponds, is suitable for cycling trips, even in hot weather.

Hamr Campsite offers publicly accessible sanitary facilities with showers, which are also accessible to people with disabilities, as well as a common room with a kitchenette for preparing your own meals and bicycle storage.
