Strýčice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Church of St. Peter and Paul in Strýčice contains valuable Early Gothic wall paintings from the first half of the 14th century. These are among the most significant discoveries of medieval wall paintings in the Czech Republic in the last decade. The church was originally built as a Romanesque structure in the 13th century; it has been protected as a cultural monument since 1958. It also preserves a Late Gothic bell dating from 1585.

Culture

The Reitinger Mill is also part of the local history: it was built between 1843 and 1845 and remained in operation under its last miller, Reitinger, until 1975. Strýčice was the center of a German-speaking language island in the otherwise predominantly Czech-speaking area of Netolicko. German family names can still frequently be found on gravestones in the local cemetery.

The school museum of Strýčice is an ethnographic museum that documents rural life in earlier times using historical objects. By prior arrangement, it offers visitors several hundred exhibits to view and try out. The collection includes furnishings from farming households, agricultural and fishing equipment, school supplies, and an original installation for filling beer from barrels into bottles.

The 35-kilometer-long, moderately difficult “Okolo Netolic” cycling route also passes through Strýčice.

Landscape

The landscape features recorded as mountains, Skalka and Vrata, are located in the vicinity of Strýčice. Nearby is the landscape feature Zádušní vrch [Strýčice-Radošovice], recorded as a hill. In the wider regional area are the site of Chlumany, recorded as an ancient site, and the landscape feature Kleť, recorded as a mountain.
