Ostrolovský Újezd: Vacation Apartments and Holiday Homes

Ostrolovský Újezd combines preserved Renaissance architecture with a history dating back to the Middle Ages. A Renaissance fortress from the late 16th century has been preserved. To this day, a Renaissance chateau stands in the center of the village; Kryštof Kořenský z Terešova built it in Ostrolovský Újezd in 1569.

History and Townscape

A castle belonging to the Lords of Újezd already stood on a promontory above the Stropnice in the 14th century. Ostrolovský Újezd is first documented in the 14th century under its former name, Oujezdec. The medieval castle site of Újezdec is located in the surrounding area and has been preserved as an earthen rampart fortification with substantial ditches. About 500 meters east of Ostrolovský Újezd, on the road to Borovany, stands the Výklenková kaple. The small brick wayside chapel dates from the mid-19th century and has been protected as a historic monument since May 3, 1958.

The Ostrolovský Újezd Nature Monument protects plant communities with spring snowflakes. The area around Ostrolovský Újezd offers a varied landscape and beautiful viewpoints.

Trails and Excursions

Ostrolovský Újezd is located at a junction of marked hiking trails and is a starting point for visiting Jan Žižka’s birthplace in Trocnov, about 2 km to the north via the blue-marked trail. The easy cycle path “Na kole okolo Borůvkovan – Borovanský dětský razítkový okruh,” which is suitable for small children, leads from Borovany along Cycle Route 1123 on the road toward Ostrolovský Újezd. The surrounding area offers opportunities to collect mushrooms and blueberries. The Beran pond, about 3 km away, is mentioned as an option for swimming. The “Spilka” inn is located in the cellar of a former brewery in Ostrolovský Újezd.
