Žár: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Žár bears its history visibly in the villagescape: the historically preserved street structure of Žár follows the course of a street settlement established along the original country road.

History and Villagescape

The first written mention of Žár dates from 1186. The present-day name Žár is documented for the village in 1221. Part of the administrative area of the municipality of Žár belongs to the Novohradsko Landscape Heritage Zone.

Another historical trace points to the Buquoy family: they had a pleasure palace built on an island in Žárský rybník, which has since disappeared.

Landscape

Žárský rybník is located in the immediate vicinity of the village of Žár, in the area of the Vitorazská Trade Route between Trhové Sviny and Nové Hrady, and was already mentioned in 1221. With an area of 120 hectares, it is the largest pond in Novohradsko.

Pamětí Slepičích hor is a 54 km circular route with 21 stops. Pamětí Novohradska is a 54 km educational circular route with 19 stops and information panels about the history of the individual places.

Around 90% of the Pamětí Novohradska route runs along paved asphalt roads; some sections are suitable only for mountain bikes and trekking bikes. In the Žár–Žumberk section, the Pamětí Novohradska route overlaps with the Slepičích hor route.

The Za Janem Žižkou na Trhovosvinensku route passes through Žár. The Za pivem na Trhovosvinensku route also passes through Žár.
