The Dehtář Pond covers a water surface of 246 hectares and combines nature observation, recreation and a long history. It was filled in 1479; the pond was created by the Rožmberk family around the turn of the 15th and 16th centuries.

Nature and Water
Dehtář Pond is used for recreation and offers opportunities for swimming. When the water level is lowered, the exposed mudflats at the pond provide an important resting place for wading birds during migration. The Dehtář Bird Protection Area also focuses on wildlife: in particular, it protects the common tern and the greylag goose.
History
The earliest traces of settlement in Dehtáře date from the Eneolithic period, approximately from 5000 to 3000 BC, and are associated with the agricultural Linear Pottery culture. Other archaeological finds in Dehtáře date from the Bronze Age and the Late Hallstatt period. The location of the sites suggests that Dehtáře and neighbouring Žabovřesky were settled jointly.
Culture
In the cadastral area of Dehtáře, the Boží muka wayside shrine is registered as a cultural monument. The Boží muka in Dehtáře is located in the direction of Břehov. This historical picture is complemented by the Chapel of Saint Florian in Dehtáře, which dates from the mid-19th century.
Paths Around the Pond
The Cesta za budějická humna route leads to Dehtáře; from there, it is only a short distance to the bank of Dehtář Pond. A yellow-marked hiking trail and cycle route No. 1085 run along the pond bank.
