Drahotieschitz: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Drahotěšice lies at an altitude of 526 m on the road between Ševětín and Dolní Bukovsko. The village is situated on the edge of extensive forests between Hluboká nad Vltavou and Purkarec; these forests are visited for their abundance of wild berries and other forest fruits.

History

Drahotěšice was first mentioned in writing on 23 October 1323. The chapel dedicated to Saint Wenceslas next to the school was built in the first half of the 19th century. The Drahotěšice war memorial, unveiled in 1928 opposite the municipal office, commemorates those who fell in the First World War and bears the names of the victims.

Slavic burial mounds have been preserved in the forests west and northwest of Drahotěšice. They bear witness to settlement in the area during the early Middle Ages. Several of the oldest houses on the village green feature elements of South Bohemian folk Baroque.

Rural heritage

U tří aronií is a nature-oriented garden in Drahotěšice with two traditional orchards and a semi-open courtyard at a 19th-century agricultural farm complex. U tří aronií also includes a reconstructed wooden granary that is more than 300 years old.

At U tří aronií, visitors can buy eggs, goat cheese, dried fruit and other agricultural products.

Landscape

Until the 1930s, a 3 km-long and approximately 10 m-thick quartz ridge was located south of Drahotěšice. After it was quarried, a trench with quartz rocks remained, which can still be seen today.

Drahotěšice is considered a popular recreational destination because of its location; there are numerous holiday homes and two holiday settlements. The village also has a grocery store and a municipal inn.
