Culture and History

The Chapel of the Most Holy Trinity was built in 1901. A Holy Mass is held there every year on the Feast of the Most Holy Trinity. The chapel also contains a marble reliquary stone in a wooden altar.

The earliest written mention of Čenkov u Bechyně dates back to 1412. The two original parts of the settlement were called Černkov and Černkovec; the name Čenkov first appears in records in 1623.

Nature and Townscape

Židova strouha was designated a natural monument in 1988. The watercourse is a gorge-like stream valley with rugged rocks and caves. Čenkow is also characterised by a one-sided settlement structure with large, enclosed rural farmsteads.

Routes

Cycle Route 1098 passes through Čenkov u Bechyně on the return journey from Bechyně. The regional route “Z Týna do Bechyně okolo Židovy strouhy” is also a circular route; Čenkov u Bechyně is included in its listed route sequence.
