Ševětín: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Ševětín combines a distinctive townscape with traditional customs and a cultural heritage that remains visible to this day. In the northeastern part of the square stands the early Gothic parish church of St. Nicholas, the oldest monument in Ševětín. The new square is also home to the Šimon-Lomnický Fountain.

Townscape and History

The history of the town is also reflected in its ethnographic affiliation: Ševětín belongs to the Pšeničné Blata region, which stretches from Soběslav to this area. Historically, the inhabitants of Ševětín wore the Blata costume, distinguished by its elaborate embroidery and the quality of its materials.

A particularly vivid episode dates back to 1836. For the coronation celebration of Emperor Ferdinand V, four couples from Ševětín wearing Blata costumes were selected to portray a peasant wedding. The costume thus appears not merely as a form of dress, but also as part of a public presentation of peasant culture.

Customs and Music

The Blaťácký soubor Ševětín draws on local customs and the traditional heritage of earlier generations. The ensemble includes a bagpipe band, pairs of dancers, and male and female singers. Its programme includes performances, theatrical sketches, and songs. In this way, music, dance, singing, and staged scenes from everyday life are brought together within a shared cultural framework.

Outdoor Activities

The Běh vítězství race is also part of the town’s traditional history: this tradition has existed in Ševětín since 1964. From approximately the 1,500-metre mark, the race follows asphalt, field, and forest paths around Ševětín, in the area of the locality “Na Babách” – this is its name.

The tennis courts in Ševětín offer another sporting opportunity. They can also be rented for a fee by non-members of SK Ševětín.

Practical Information

There is no ticket office at Ševětín railway station. Passenger tickets are sold on the train.
