Around Dasný, a watery landscape, protected nature and historic village culture come together.

Nature and Water

To the north of Dasný lies Bezdrev Pond, covering 520 hectares, which is used for swimming and water sports, especially sailing and windsurfing. The Vrbenské rybníky protected area overlaps with the cadastral area of Dasný and encompasses ecologically valuable aquatic, wetland, meadow and forest ecosystems with rare and protected plant and animal species. These include the critically endangered fire-bellied toad (Bombina bombina) and the hermit beetle (Osmoderma eremita).

History and Architecture

During the last two centuries before the abolition of serfdom, Dasný was divided into two halves: the northern part belonged to the Hluboká estate, while the southern part belonged to the royal city of České Budějovice. At the centre of the village green stands the Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk. The inhabitants of Dasný financed it jointly; it was built as a pseudo-Romanesque chapel between 1869 and 1870 and consecrated on 6 June 1870. An imperial road to Vodňany, built in the 1820s, crossed the village green diagonally.

Historic farmsteads on the village green in Dasný have preserved a high level of historical and architectural quality. Three farmhouses there contain design elements in the style of Czech rural Baroque.

Cycle Routes and Sightlines

The 50-kilometre Velký okruh Blaty cycle circuit passes through Dasný and follows the route between Češňovice and České Budějovice. From Dasný, you can turn right behind the village and follow a very poor field and forest track along a pond to České Budějovice. Dasný offers panoramic views of Hluboká nad Vltavou Castle. There are also sightlines from the surroundings of Dasný to the Church of Saints Peter and Paul in Hosín.
