Rudolfov: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
The Perkmistrovský House was built in 1591 as the residence of the royal mining official, the perkmistr, and is protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. Following its renovation and ceremonial reopening on 13 September 2014, the newly renovated building serves as the Mining Museum, tourist information centre and specialist library. The Rudolfov Mining Museum presents three exhibitions: on the history of mining in Rudolfov, Emperor Rudolf II and alchemy, and the life of the town from the Napoleonic Wars to the present day.
History
In 1585, a privilege granted by Rudolf II elevated Rudolfov to a free mining town with extensive privileges. A period of approximately sixty years of productive silver mining in Rudolfov was of undeniable importance for the development of the surrounding area.
Culture
The Renaissance Church of St Vitus was built between 1556 and 1583, was originally Protestant and has been Catholic since 1636. It is accessible during the services held regularly on Sundays at 9:45 a.m. Every year on the first Saturday in June, Rudolfov hosts the historic Mining Festivities.
Nature
Královský Pond is a registered significant landscape feature in Rudolfov and part of a cascade of ponds created along the Rudolfovský Stream in the 16th century for ore mining.
Gardens and Trails
The Anastazie Garden offers excursions for professionals and the interested public, as well as courses on natural gardens. The “Gardens above the Town” area offers courses for adults, programmes for children and events for the public. The Fairy Trail is open as part of the area’s events; schools and the general public visit the community gardens. Along the trail, children receive a map and can search for fairies in the corners of the community garden. The Rudolfov Garden can be visited from April to November.
The Rudolfov Route is easy and recommended for sightseeing all year round; it starts and ends in Rudolfov. Rudolfov also has the “Path Around the Mining Town” educational trail.
