Rataje: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Rataje showcases history at several specific sites: in the Church of the Holy Trinity, in the preserved remains of a medieval fortification, and in rural farmsteads. There are also archaeological traces in the surrounding area, an educational trail along the Smutná, and cultural events in the village.

Culture and History

The Church of the Holy Trinity in Rataje is already mentioned in written sources from 1384. Its present appearance was created by a Baroque renovation at the beginning of the 18th century. Inside, valuable rooms with preserved vaults, a cove ceiling, and stone floors have been preserved.

The preserved traces of the village's history include the Valy ratajské, the remains of a medieval fortification. The former mill on the Smutná is also a Neoclassical rural farmstead with a two-gabled layout dating from the late 18th century. On the lower side of the village green there is another rural farmstead with a log house and agricultural buildings, probably built in the first half of the 19th century. The village also contains houses in the style of South Bohemian folk Baroque.

Archaeology and Villagescape

In the Na Homoli grove south of Rataje, the historian and writer Jan Karel Hraše discovered dozens of burial mounds. The signs along Jan Karel Hraše's archaeological educational trail provide information about the individual sites and Hraše's research, as well as about modern archaeology, research methods, and the evaluation of research results.

Jan Karel Hraše's archaeological educational trail can be walked as a continuous excursion of around 15 km along both banks of the Smutná; the river is crossed below Haškovcova Lhota.

Landscape and Surroundings

Ulčí vrch hill is located in the immediate vicinity of Rataje. The Obora and Zvíkovec hills, as well as the Church of Svatý Jan, are located in the surrounding area. In the wider regional area are Smrčí hill, Hrad Zvíkov Castle, and the Church of Svatá Anna; the Church of Svatý Jan is also located in the wider regional area around Rataje.

Water and Cultural Life

A paddling tour on the Smutná can begin at the bridge in Rataje. Local cultural life includes the DUHA bagpipe band, as well as annual cultural and social events such as Christmas carol singing in the chapel and a hunters' ball.
