Bechyne: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The guided tour of Bechyně Castle, with commentary, begins as early as the walk through the castle park. The castle has been protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic since 1958.

Culture

The monastery with the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Bechyně stands on a rock above the Lužnice. The monastery contains the largest collection of cell vaults in the Czech Republic. The Church of St. Michael in Bechyně is used for concerts and exhibitions.

Museums

The International Museum of Ceramics in Bechyně presents the permanent exhibition “Porta Ceramica” from the collections of AJG. The Bechyně Town Museum offers a permanent exhibition on the history of the town and its surroundings.

The Tourism Museum in Bechyně, opened in 2006, is considered the first museum of its kind in the Czech Republic. It documents the development of tourism in the Czech Republic and Europe; it also includes a permanent exhibition on the history of the Jewish communities in the Bechyně region. The gallery at the Bechyně Town Museum presents seasonal exhibitions and holds workshops.

Landscape and Trails

The monastery garden offers seating and a view of the Lužnice Valley framed by the Bechyňská duha. The visitor facilities in Bechyně include several described hiking and cycling tours through interesting places in the Bechyně region. The Bechyňské vyhlídky circular trail is 4 km long, while the Okruh Židovou strouhou circular trail is 11 km long.

History

Regular service on the Tábor–Bechyně railway line began in June 1903. In 1929, the line was extended across the Lužnice to Bechyně; in doing so, it crossed the Bechyňská duha, also called Duhový most, whose roadway is shared by road and rail traffic and which serves both road and rail traffic. The Bechyňská duha has an arch span of 90 m and stands 50 m above the water level of the Lužnice.
