Sviny: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Sviny reveals its distinctive character through the interplay of architectural heritage, landscape and the various opportunities to experience the surrounding area actively. Striking buildings, a spacious village square and the moorland landscapes in the wider surroundings give the village a range of different, closely interconnected facets.

Architectural Heritage

The Chapel of Saint Vojtěch in Sviny is a protected cultural monument. At its core, it is a late Baroque building from the end of the 18th century; its present form was created following an extension in 1896. The chapel consists of an entrance tower, a nave with a flat roof and a three-sided presbytery. At the same time, it is a free-standing, octagonal, masonry central building with a polygonal bell cupola and a lantern. Inside, it contains a Baroque statue of Our Lady of Sorrows. Regular Masses have resumed in the chapel and take place every other Thursday.

The architectural character of Sviny includes several imposing Blata farmsteads with richly decorated gables, which are associated with the tradition of Selské baroko. The granary of house no. 7 is also one of the village's individual listed buildings. Svinenská náves is large and spacious, with a circular layout. Two ponds complement the square, which also features green spaces with lime and birch trees. In its southern section, characterised by lime trees, there is a monument to those who fell in the First World War.

The historic municipal school building in Sviny was built in 1795. Between Sviny and Kundratice lies the Kerchůvek plague cemetery, which was restored together with its chapel in 2008 and enhanced for tourism. Keramika U Kočků offers an insight into local crafts: ceramic goods are decorated there by hand using underglaze painting. The Sviny Municipal Library has more than 1,000 books of various types and genres.

Nature

The approximately 900-hectare Borkovická Blata moorland lies between Sviny and the neighbouring villages of Komárov, Klečaty, Zálší, Mažice, Borkovice, Žíšov and Zaluží. In the wider surroundings of Sviny, the Borkovická blata Nature Reserve protects a transitional bog in a basin with remnants of bog pine forests, as well as characteristic flora and fauna.

In the wider surroundings of Sviny, wetlands with protected plant and animal species and habitats of European importance are regenerating in the peat-extracted areas of Borkovická blata. A nature trail leads through the moorland landscapes of the nature reserve there.

Activities and Trails

The Greenway selského baroka cycle path passes through Sviny. Recreational and sport fishing is possible at Cihelna Pond. A walk from Sviny leads over the embankments of Dorotka and Holý ponds. On well-maintained, less busy roads, inline skaters can travel from Sviny towards Borkovice, Dolní Bukovsko and Veselí nad Lužnicí.

The renovated multi-purpose sports grounds in Sviny can serve visitors to the municipality and enable a broader range of physical activities.
