In the former castle grounds of Radenín, parts of the 14th-century fortification walls and a later eastern gate have been preserved. Radenín Castle originated from a medieval fortress that was expanded into a castle in 1578 and became the center of the estate.

History

Radenín Castle was remodeled into its present form in 1869. It is a two-winged, two-story building with pilasters and half-columns on one wing, a lunette frieze on the second floor, as well as Renaissance cross vaults and net-rib vaults and barrel vaults with lunettes on the ground floor. In the cadastral area of Radenín, an area belonging to the castle grounds is registered as a cultural monument under registration number 29319/3-4974.

Religious Buildings

The Church of St. Margaret is single-naved, has a five-sided apse and a tower on the north side. Its Renaissance cross vault dates from the second half of the 16th century; a Renaissance façade also dates from the 16th century. St. Margaret has been documented as a parish church since 1369 or 1384 and is located near a Gothic medieval fortress. The subsidiary Church of St. Margaret in Radenín is essentially a Gothic building and is occasionally used for services.

The Chapel of St. Barbara on the south side of the church is Baroque and octagonal; it was built with a dome in 1732 and features Baroque paintings. In front of the Chapel of St. John of Nepomuk, there is a stone statue of St. Francis of Paola from 1717 on the left and a statue of St. John of Nepomuk from 1727 on the right.

Landscape

The castle courtyard of Radenín has a well and terraces. Radenín Castle Park is a romantic terraced park designed in the 19th century on a Baroque foundation; a remnant of an orangery has been preserved there. From the castle, the park slopes down over five terraces and includes a viewpoint and a brick grotto.

Remembrance

Radenín’s historical sights include the former Jewish ghetto and the Jewish cemetery. The Jewish cemetery in Radenín has been reconstructed, is well maintained and open to the public; around 300 gravestones have been preserved there.
