Okrouhlá: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

At Ostrovský Pond in Okrouhlá lies the important Ostrov archaeological site, which is classified as the site of a late medieval fortress. The pond belonging to Okrouhlá covers 27.5 hectares; at its center lies a large island first mentioned in written records in 1501. At the same time, Ostrovský Pond is associated with a medieval fortress documented in written records as existing in 1501. Archaeologically, however, it has not been confirmed that it was a fortress or the remains of a manor house.

History

Okrouhlá originally belonged to the domain of Milevsko Monastery. The village’s historical landmarks include the stone bridge over the Tábor–Ražice railway line, built in 1880, as well as the old Okrouhlá stone footbridge over the Milevsko–Písek railway line. The stone bridge near Okrouhlá offers a view toward Milevsko.

Culture

Another stone cross stands on the road to Okrouhlá from the direction of Milevsko. According to the recollections of eyewitnesses, the municipality had a wayside shrine rebuilt on the eastern edge of Okrouhlá; according to the same recollections, the shrine contains a statue of Our Lady of Lourdes.

Routes

A chapel of the Virgin Mary dating from 1887 stands in Okrouhlá. It lies on the route from Milevsko via Sepekov, Líšnice, Okrouhlá, Křižanov and Jestřebice to the Kupa lookout tower. This route is a moderately difficult cycling or driving loop of approximately 17 kilometers.
