Oslov: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Oslov combines sacred monuments, small natural areas and paths with historical significance. On the northern edge of the village, along the road towards Zvíkov, stands the early Baroque wayside shrine known as boží muka. The rendered masonry pillar rests on a massive cube-shaped base and has an irregularly cylindrical shaft, topped by a cube-shaped lantern structure.

Culture and History

In the centre of Oslov, on the northern side of the village square, stands the Church of St Linhart (Kostel sv. Linharta). It was originally Gothic; historic groin vaults and a coffered ceiling have been preserved inside.

On the outskirts of Oslov stands the Chapel of St Anne (Kaple sv. Anny). It was built between 1545 and 1548 on the site of a former hermitage. A Baroque painting of Saint Anne from the first half of the 18th century hangs above the altar. The Svatá Anna peninsula is designated as a protected natural area with the Church of St Anne (kostel sv. Anny).

The surrounding area also preserves a remarkable monument to the history of transport: between 1886 and 1889, a valuable steel truss railway bridge was built there over the Orlík Reservoir. The bridge is 253 metres long and has an upper-deck roadway.

Landscape and Nature

The local Židovna pond has yellow iris flowers along its banks and is associated with carp fishing. In the Krkavčina area, a remnant of a relict pine forest grows on silicate subsoil, with occurrences of bearberry (Arctostaphylos uva-ursi).

The Výří skály Nature Reserve lies approximately two kilometres from Oslov. A green-marked hiking trail from Tukleky leads to this nature reserve and then continues to Zvíkov Castle.

Paths and Educational Trails

The Partyzánská educational trail runs through the western surroundings of Oslov and presents the history of the resistance and partisan activity in this area. It is 6.3 kilometres long and runs from the Oslov bus stop via Černý vrch, U Chyšáka samoty, U Chyšáků, the confluence of the Otava and Lomnice rivers and Pazderny to the Oslov cemetery.

Oslov also provides a map portal through which the municipal map and cadastral map can be displayed and the land registry system accessed.
