Protivin: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Krokodýlí ZOO Protivín offers the educational experience program “Poznej dokonalý výtvor evoluce – Seznam se s krokodýlem”. It introduces visitors to crocodiles.

Culture and History

Protivín Square is home to St. Elisabeth Church, which was completed in 1662 in the early Baroque style. The brewery in Protivín also has a long history: it was founded in 1598. The traditional town celebrations, held every year on the last weekend in August, are a lively annual event.

The Památník města Protivína presents modern historical exhibitions on the history of Protivín and its surroundings. Topics include, among other things, the history of the brewery and the railway.

Collections and Exhibitions

The Protivín Information Centre includes a zoological museum with osteological preparations and dermoplastics of reptiles, monkeys, rhinoceroses and giraffes. The information centre also houses a permanent exhibition featuring collages, prolagens and chiasmagens by the artist Jiří Kolář, who was born in Protivín.

The Památník města Protivína also includes the “Exotická příroda” exhibition, with dioramas of rainforest, savannah, desert and the depths of the sea. Another collection awaits visitors at Království času: more than 1,200 clocks, wristwatches and alarm clocks are on display there.

Experiences for Younger Visitors

The Památník města Protivína offers interactive elements in its exhibition that also appeal to younger visitors. At Království času, there is a watchmaking workshop for children, where visitors can make models of alarm clocks, wristwatches or hand puppets, among other things. Království času also includes an outdoor playground in an enclosed garden.

Nature and Activities

A group of 13 ponds lies between Protivín and the Písek Mountains. Ten of them are protected as the “Zelendárky” natural monument.

The NS Blanice educational trail is 23 km long and is suitable for walks, full-day family outings and cycling tours. Walking time for family outings is 4–5 hours, while cycling takes approximately 2.5 hours.

Practical Information

In Protivín, the NS Blanice can be started at the bus stop on the square in front of the museum or in front of the railway station. However, the official starting point is in the passageway of the Protivín Museum, where an introductory information panel and a map of the educational trail are displayed.

The Protivín Information Centre provides information on transport connections, accommodation, dining, and cultural and sporting events, and sells maps for cycle tourists.
