Mirotice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Mirotice brings together the Památník Mikoláše Aleše a Matěje Kopeckého, the Kostel sv. Jiljí church, the Židovský hřbitov Jewish cemetery and the Alšova stezka trail. Memorial sites, historic buildings and a themed route are thus closely concentrated here at the heart of the town’s history.
Culture and History
Near the square in Mirotice, the Památník Mikoláše Aleše a Matěje Kopeckého is located in the birthplace of Mikoláš Aleš. Visitors can learn about the life and work of the painter Mikoláš Aleš and the puppeteer Matěj Kopecký. Visits are possible by prior telephone arrangement at 382 229 101; for operational reasons, visits cannot currently be offered at weekends and on public holidays.
The present appearance of the Kostel sv. Jiljí church in Mirotice dates back to a pseudo-Romanesque reconstruction carried out between 1870 and 1872. The Baroque bell tower at the Kostel sv. Jiljí church was built between 1753 and 1756 in place of an older wooden structure. The towers of the Kostel sv. Jiljí church often appear in drawings by Mikoláš Aleš.
The “Židovský hřbitov” Jewish cemetery in Mirotice was established before 1647. Approximately 250 gravestones have survived there to this day. The cemetery is locked; upon request, the Mirotice municipal office can provide access.
Historic Buildings
The Dům zvaný Rytířský is a Renaissance house near the square in Mirotice and probably dates from the 17th century. Its preserved painted façades with stucco decorations define the appearance of the building. The Měšťanský dům is also located near the square. It has a mansard roof and dates from the early 17th century; its façade was remodelled in the Baroque style and fitted with an attic and stucco decorations.
The Kaplička sv. Jana Nepomuckého chapel stands in the Zářečí district on the northern edge of Mirotice. The Baroque chapel was built in the second half of the 18th century.
