The large Gothic hall of the Prácheň Museum, known as the “Knights’ Hall”, is a preserved remnant of the royal castle of Písek.

Culture and History

The Kamenný most stone bridge in Písek is a national cultural monument and was built before the end of the 13th century. It has seven arches and is 110 metres long.

Another historic site is the Sladovna. It was built in Písek between 1862 and 1864 as a large building for producing malt for beer brewing and was opened as a cultural venue in 2007. The early Gothic fortifications of Písek are among the oldest surviving fortifications in Czech towns.

Cycle Routes and Trekking

The 35-kilometre Otavská cycling route runs through Kestřany, Písek and Varvažov. In Písek and the surrounding area, there are also flat cycling routes along the Otava and Blanice rivers.

The Písecká hřebenovka is a 74-kilometre trek that runs approximately along the boundary of the municipality of Písek.

Industry and Breeding

A roughly one-hour tour of the JITEX textile company provides insights into authentic industrial spaces and presents the entire production process, from the incoming materials to the finished product.

The Zemský hřebčinec was opened in 1902 on the outskirts of Písek as a stud farm for breeding breeding horses. Regular guided tours at the Zemský hřebčinec provide insights into the breeding of stallions.
