Mezná: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Mezná is surrounded by forests and numerous ponds. The cadastral area contains a total of sixteen ponds; three of them have an area of more than ten hectares: Starosta with 12.2 hectares, Nový mezenský with 11.9 hectares, and Těšín with 10.7 hectares.

Culture and Local History

The school in Mezná was in operation for a total of 68 years. Today, the former school building houses the Mezná municipal office; since 2009, it has also been home to Hospůdka Ve Škole. On the village green in Mezná stands the former manorial tavern No. 6, locally known as the “old tavern.” It is documented as early as the time of the Thirty Years’ War; the earliest tavern keeper documented by name is Martin Zámečník (1691–1697).

The Chapel of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary was built shortly after 1828 and replaced an earlier masonry chapel or bell tower at the same location. In July 1934, the first pilgrimage took place in Mezná after repairs to the chapel. The Tvrziště Mezná fortified site dates from the 14th century, has a circular layout, and lies approximately 300 metres southwest of the centre of Mezná.

An archaeological find is also associated with the village: the bronze arm rings and pottery shards discovered in a find in Mezná are currently held in the collections of the South Bohemian Museum in České Budějovice.

Cycling

The “Planá nad Lužnicí” cycling tour passes through Chotěmice, Nová Ves, Mezná, and Kvasejovice, and then continues along a better-developed field track towards Zvěrotice.
