Landscape

The château park is part of the Lažany château ensemble. It covers an estimated 2.5 hectares, and its present design follows the English landscape romanticism of the period after the mid-19th century.

History

Lažany was first mentioned in 1384; at that time, the village belonged to Ježek of Lažany. Lažany Fortress was converted into a château at the end of the 16th century and expanded in 1760 with a second Baroque wing.

Events

Regular annual events in Lažany include the burning of the witches (pálení čarodějnic) on 30 April. A nohejbal tournament takes place in June. The most important event in Lažany is the Pouťový turnaj small-sided football tournament; it takes place on the first weekend of the school holidays and is contested for the mayor’s challenge cup. In addition, holiday events with competitions are held in Lažany and organized jointly with the owners of holiday houses.

A sports field has been established in Lažany for small-sided football, nohejbal, and tennis.

Finding Your Way Around the Village

Lažany consists of houses around the local château along the access road from Strakonice, as well as the “Sázky” district, located about 250 metres away. Road bridge no. 1731-12 lies south of Lažany on the embankment that divides Kořenský Pond, in the direction of Doubravice.
