Němětice: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Němětice lies in the valley of the Volyňka, in the Šumava foothills at the foot of the Bohemian Forest. A wooded ridge with the peaks of Kráva (622 m) and Ostrý vrch (591 m) partially forms the southern side of the Peklov Valley.

Landscape and location

Hradec is situated on a spur south of the Peklov stream, about 600 metres southeast of the chapel in the village. Hradec-Hradiště near Němětice is located on a spur above the Volyňka and was settled during the Iron Age and the hillfort period.

Culture and local history

At the northern edge of Němětice stands the Baroque farmstead No. 29 on the road between the village green and the main road. The protected area includes the residential building, stables, a barn, a masonry gate, and the enclosed plots of land. Farmstead No. 29 is one of the finest examples of vernacular architecture in the area around Volyně.

Traditional building forms can also be seen in other buildings: House No. 8 on the road still has a timber-framed room and a gable clad in wooden boards, while House No. 2 is simple and has a triangular gable. The chapel on the village green has a simple winged gable and a bell in the roof ridge. The Chapel of Our Lady of Mount Carmel is a masonry building with a rectangular floor plan and a three-sided apse in the style of peasant Baroque.

Němětice was founded in 1315 on land belonging to the sovereign, together with several other villages in the surrounding area, by Queen Eliška Přemyslovna.

Roads and water

The Zlatá stezka route runs via Radošovice and Němětice to Volyně. Cold-water swimmers can bathe in the Volyňka. In 2006, part of a cycle path running along the Volyňka and the holiday-home area in Němětice was financed.
