Škvořetice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

At the northwestern edge of the municipality stands Škvořetice Castle: a two-storey, four-winged building with a rectangular floor plan and inner courtyard, a three-storey corner tower, and an adjoining park.

History and Architecture

The core of the castle dates back to the early 16th century. Under Karl Hildprandt, it was rebuilt in 1921–1922 in the pseudo-Renaissance style according to plans by Vojtěch Volf of Beroun. Remains of Renaissance plaster, including traces of sgraffito, have been preserved in the tower. The castle is now privately owned.

Chapels and Pilgrimage

The Chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows was built in 1884 next to an older site of worship and consecrated on 3 September 1884. The building is designed in the Neo-Romanesque style; the interior features figurative and floral paintings in the style of the Beuron Art School from 1907. The chapel is located along the road from the village square towards Buzice, with parking available for cars in its vicinity. It underwent extensive renovation in 2020–2021 and was blessed on 7 May 2022. At the same time, it became a destination and venue for well-known pilgrimages.

The Chapel of the Holy Trinity was built in 1866. It is a simple, non-oriented Neo-Gothic building with a rectangular floor plan, a three-sided apse, and a small bell tower.

Culture and Trails

In the wider surroundings of Škvořetice, the Church of Promění Páně stands on Křesovec Hill. It acquired its present form in 1763–1765 and was historically an important pilgrimage site in the region. From the village of Pacelice, the church can be reached via a visitor car park and an approximately 300-metre footpath through the forest.

Cycling Routes

The Blatná–Čekanice–Sedlice–Lom–Škvořetice–Buzice–Blatná cycling loop uses Cycle Route No. 31 between Lom and Škvořetice. The cycling tour known as “Za sedlickou krajkou” also passes through Škvořetice.
