Slaník: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Slaník leads from a late Gothic fortress and an early documented place name to historic memorial sites, an avenue of apple trees, and the Otava River.

History

The late Gothic Slaník Fortress served as a feudal seat for around 30 years and gradually fell into disrepair after 1505. The first written mention of Slaník dates from 1359; at that time, the local mill belonged to Řepice. The settlement was originally called Dvořec.

Another historical trace can be found near “Na hrádku”. The site is a wooded, elongated ridge on the old road west of Slaník. A surface survey on the southern slope uncovered grey-black pottery fragments that can be dated to the 13th and 14th centuries.

Culture

Several memorials are part of the village landscape. The Slaník Memorial Linden was planted in 1848 and stands next to a small wayside shrine. A newly planted avenue of apple trees leads to the Memorial Linden. There is also a stone cross from 1907 in front of the chapel in Slaník. The village is home to a Jan Hus monument, which was supplemented with the names of those who fell between 1914 and 1918.

The “Slanická lípa” march is also associated with Slaník. In the 2015 event calendar of the Memorial of the Five Prácheň Marches, it was listed as a march organised by the Slaník Municipal Office. The march started in Slaník and offered routes of varying difficulty for walkers and cyclists. Distances of 10, 20, 30, and 50 kilometres were available; the 30- and 50-kilometre routes were intended for cyclists.

Landscape

The Slaník water sports campsite is located at a weir on the Otava River.
