Blatná: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Blatná Chateau is one of the best-preserved water-surrounded aristocratic residences in the Czech Republic. The complex underwent extensive Late Gothic reconstruction.

Nature and trails

The 42-hectare chateau park is open to the public year-round. It includes streams, bridges, paths and tree-lined avenues. Fallow deer roam freely in the chateau park; there is also a group of peacocks.

The “Blatenské královny – růžová stezka” trail runs through the chateau park to the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary.

Museums and city history

The “Muzeum Všemi smysly” exhibition brings the history of the Blatensko region to life through touch, hearing and smell, taking visitors back to the Iron Age through five rooms. The Blatná City Museum is located in Blatná’s historic town centre near the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary.

An educational walk with a museum historian familiarises pupils and students with Blatná’s notable city buildings, including the church, tower, town hall, schools and Sokolovna, as well as with important figures from the city.

Church, square and historic buildings

The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Blatná is one of the outstanding expressions of Late Gothic architecture in South Bohemia and the wider Danube region. The cemetery chapel of St Michael near the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Blatná was consecrated in 1515. The church’s neo-Gothic bell tower originally served as the entrance to the former cemetery.

The Marian Column, known as the “Mariánský sloup”, stands in the middle of Míru Square within Blatná’s urban heritage zone. It depicts St Wenceslas, St John of Nepomuk, St Dominic, St Joseph and the Virgin Mary with the infant Jesus.

The Kontribuční sýpka is a three-storey granary from the first half of the 19th century on the outskirts of Blatná towards Buzice. The historic roof structure and historic beam ceilings have been preserved. On plantations covering more than 30 hectares, Jan Böhm bred over 100 new varieties of different species, colours and fragrances.
