Stozice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Naučná stezka Stožice educational trail begins in Stožice. It is approximately 8 km long and eventually leads back to the settlement. Its information boards cover local settlements, fauna, flora, fruit growing in the region, and geographical topics.

Nature

The trail runs along Svobodná hora, which lies at an elevation of 640 m above sea level. From there, you can enjoy views of parts of Šumava, Českobudějická pánev, Písecké hory, and Vodňansko. The area around Stožice and Křepice lies at the transition between the geomorphological units of Šumavské podhůří in the Netonická vrchovina subregion and Českobudějická pánev in the Vodňanská pánev subregion; Stožice itself lies in Vodňanská pánev.

There are extensive pond systems in the floodplains of the Blanice and Radomilický potok rivers. Mužský hill is located in the vicinity of Stožice. The nearby hills include Bušava [Stožice] and Svobodná hora, while Zdoba mountain lies in the wider regional surroundings of Stožice.

Culture

The writer and journalist Josef Holeček was born in Stožice on 27 February 1853. His twelve-volume novel “Naši” is set mainly in his native village and its local surroundings. His birthplace in Stožice is House No. 7; a commemorative plaque and the inscription “U Holečků” commemorate him.

The village square is dominated by the Neo-Gothic Chapel of Saints Simon and Jude. Its façade is decorated with frescoes of Saint Florian and Saint Procopius.
