Nahorany: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Nahořany is a well-preserved settlement in the foothills of the Šumava with a small village square of medieval origin. The ensemble of folk architecture includes brick buildings from the 18th and 19th centuries, as well as a chapel from the 19th century. The village square in Nahořany can also be seen in the films Trhák and Princezna ze mlejna.

History and Villagescape

The first references to Nahořany date back to the 14th century. In 1315, the residents received significant privileges from Eliška Přemyslovna for guarding the royal forests.

In 1629, peasants led by the local judge of Nahořany resisted re-Catholicization in the area around Čestice. The peasant army from Nahořany controlled the entire region for three years and engaged in several minor skirmishes.

Community and Events

(S)Močidlo includes a sauna house beside a well-maintained water reservoir. At (S)Močidlo, communal sauna sessions and cold-water bathing take place approximately every two to three days.

The Živý betlém in Nahořany is an interactive, music-accompanied performance held on Christmas Eve, involving the audience. After the Živý betlém, performers and spectators meet in the chapel to sing Christmas carols together.

Geographical Location and Routes

Nahořany is five kilometres south of Čestice. On the way from Volyně to Čestice, turn right in Nahořany and follow an asphalt road for approximately 10 km to Čestice.

Cycle Route No. 121 connects Volyně and Čestice via local roads.
