Holiday apartment in Vacovice: Culture, trails and landscape
Vacovice combines peaceful nature with an unusually rich agricultural and religious history. The village is located in the foothills of the Bohemian Forest at an average elevation of around 706 metres. Forests, wide views and unspoilt nature characterise the surroundings; agricultural land in the Vacovice cadastral area is used predominantly for grazing. If you are considering a holiday apartment in Vacovice as a base for your trip, landscape experiences and cultural discoveries come together here within a compact thematic area.
Exploring trails and wide-open landscapes
Cycle route 1071 between Javorník and Volyně passes through Vacovice. In addition, a blue-marked hiking trail connects Kašperské Hory and Bavorov and also passes through Vacovice. For your planning, these two different trail connections offer various perspectives on the village and its surroundings. Numerous well-maintained wayside crosses in Vacovice and the surrounding area complete the picture of a cultural landscape in which trails, places and religious landmarks are interconnected.
Cultural monuments in the village centre
Particularly impressive is Farmstead No. 5 in the historic village centre. It was declared a cultural monument on 17 July 2025 and is in an almost authentic state of preservation. In the central section of the residential building is an almost completely intact black kitchen with vaulted ceilings, an oven and a cement floor. The granary is also one of the notable parts of the farmstead: its dendrochronological dating ranges from the mid-15th century to the beginning of the 18th century.
Next to the chapel stands House No. 6, a building of folk architecture dating from around 1865. The Chapel of the Sacred Heart of Jesus itself was built from 1911 onwards and completed after the First World War. Inside is a Baroque altar from the church in Dobrš. Vacovice therefore offers several specific points of interest for anyone wishing to combine historic architectural forms, sacred spaces and the development of rural architecture during their stay.
Traditions and living village life
The history of the village is reflected not only in its buildings. Flax cultivation and linen weaving have a centuries-old tradition in the area around Vacovice. The last loom in Vacovice was still in operation in 1928. Well-known folk traditions include the so-called Konopice and Masopust processions. Every July, the volunteer fire brigade association SDH Vacovice organises the “Pohár starosty obce Vacovice” competition, in which men’s, women’s and veterans’ teams take part.
There is also a specific stopping point for pilgrims: a municipal inn serves as a place where they can refresh themselves. Together with the wayside crosses, marked routes and historic buildings, this creates a villagescape in which peaceful landscapes and regional traditions stand directly alongside one another. Depending on whether you want to focus on nature observation, trails or cultural monuments when choosing your holiday apartment in Vacovice, you will find a range of different themes here for planning your trip.
