History and Culture

After Uzenice was incorporated into Drahenice, the former Uzenice fortress was converted into a granary. A granite monument to T. G. Masaryk from 1938 stands in Uzenice village square. It remained in its location during the occupation in the Second World War and throughout the entire communist era. The Chapel of Saint Wenceslas in Uzenice village square dates from the late 19th century. Traditional folk crafts in Uzenice include the “keramická dílna pí Ďurčové” ceramics workshop.

Landscape and Surroundings

The gold-panning site in Jamky Forest lies 1.5 km west of Uzenice. The gold-washing heaps in Jamky Forest lie at an elevation of 460 m in flat terrain between the Kostratský stream and an unnamed right-bank tributary. The remains of gold mining in Jamky Forest are part of an extensive complex of relics from open-pit gold mining in the region north of Blatná, probably dating from the High Middle Ages.

In the immediate vicinity of Uzenice is Chlumák Hill [Uzeničky]. The surroundings of Uzenice include the historic site “Lety u Písku. Památník holokaustu Romů a Sintů v Čechách”, Vinice Mountain, and Štěrbina Mountain. In the wider regional surroundings of Uzenice are Kněžský vrch Mountain, Hrad Zvíkov Castle, the site known as “Radomysl Mediumwave Radio Mast”, which is considered a ruin, and the Church of Svatý Jan. The column-shaped boží muka are considered a valuable landscape-defining feature.
