Nihošovice displays its history particularly clearly in the listed chateau grounds: these include the cellars of the former fortress, the front and rear gardens, and an enclosing wall with gates.

Culture and history

Nihošovice Chateau was probably built onto an older fortress between 1670 and 1675. West of Nihošovice stands the Chapel of Saint Anthony of Padua, dating from the late 17th century. The central building has a cruciform layout and a vaulted dome above the central space. The chapel in Nihošovice was built in 1693; two small towers with onion domes complete its appearance.

Landscape

At 440 metres, the valley of the Peklov stream is the lowest point in the planning area of Nihošovice. Nedomína lies within the cadastral area of Nihošovice at an elevation of 574 metres.

The Ostrý vrch hill [Volyně] and the (Na skalních drahách) hill [Volyně] lie in the immediate vicinity of Nihošovice. Mount Chlum lies near Nihošovice. The ruins of the Radomysl Mediumwave Radio Mast and Kamenná hora mountain are located in the wider regional surroundings.

By bicycle

The Prácheňsko na kole cycling tour runs through Volyně, Nihošovice and Čestice. It is 89 km long, moderately difficult and suitable for all types of bicycles.
