Metly is characterized by specific bodies of water, paths, and regional landmarks. A 1,200-meter-long asphalt path runs along the eastern shore of Metelský rybník. When fully filled, Metelský rybník has an area of 51 hectares.
Nature and Bodies of Water
The Metelský potok is 7.7 kilometers long and flows into the Lomnice in the municipality of Předmíř. The Štěrbina and Nad Moráskem mountains are located in the vicinity of Metly. The mountains Vinice and Praha lie in the wider regional surroundings of Metly.
Paths and Routes
A cycling route leads from Metly via Březí northwards to Hvožďany. The asphalt connection through the cadastral territory of Metly extends to the boundaries of the neighboring cadastral territories of Starý Smolivec and Pozdyně. The 32.2-kilometer circular route “Pod Štědrým” also passes through Metly.
The “Novoroční pochod na Metelskou horu” was held for the sixth time in 2015 and led from Zámlyní via Předmíř and Metly to Metelská hora.
Culture and History
Metly is home to the wayside shrine “Boží muka v Metlech u Metelského potoka”. The “Metelský, Sudů, Pečených mlýn” mill in Metly is documented with certainty from 1542 onward. The 2002 flood disaster associated with Metly destroyed thirteen houses.
The Radomysl Mediumwave Radio Mast, a ruin, is located in the wider regional surroundings of Metly. The historic site “Lety u Písku. Památník holokaustu Romů a Sintů v Čechách” is also located in these wider regional surroundings.
