Lom: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The village of Lom combines a documented history dating back to the 14th century with a predominantly rural townscape, the legally registered significant Lomnice river floodplain and the regional ecological corridor Střížovický vrch–Buzičky. Between historical traces, the Lomnice river floodplain and the paths towards Škvořetice, the village reveals several distinct facets.

History and Townscape

The first written mention of the village of Lom is a royal charter issued by John of Luxembourg and dated 24 August 1341. The charter mentions a farm called Lom with fields, forests and meadows.

In the village centre stands a brick bell tower bearing the year 1882, with an iron cross, two side windows, a sheet-metal roof over the entrance and a roof made of fired tiles. The chapel in Lom, built in 1882 to replace a wooden belfry, has survived to this day and has been restored.

The original settlement pattern of the municipality of Lom is predominantly rural. It is characterised by agricultural estates and farmhouses, mostly with rectangular floor plans, occasionally with L-shaped floor plans and generally with pitched roofs. More recent construction has not significantly affected this settlement pattern.

Landscape and Historical Traces

In the northern part of the Míreč cadastral area there is a legally registered significant landscape element: the Lomnice river floodplain. The regional ecological corridor Střížovický vrch–Buzičky also forms part of the territory of Lom.

Near Míreč, traces of human work from historical gold panning have survived along the Lomnice river to this day. The area near Míreč where gold was once panned bears the local name V jamkách because of the depressions left behind by gold panning.

Routes and Horse-Riding Offers

Marked cycle route No. 1 runs through Lom between Sedlice and Škvořetice. Marked cycle route No. 31 leads from Lom towards Škvořetice. Another route, “In the Footsteps of Mikoláš Aleš”, follows a field track to the municipality of Míreč.
