Budkov: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

A significant historical landmark in Budkov is the fortress of the Knights of Budkov. It has been preserved in the walls of the present-day barn on the former manor farm in the eastern part of Budkov and dates back to the early 16th century.

Culture and History

Budkovský Mlýn lies east of Budkov on the Budkovský Pond. The brick-built mill, of Renaissance origin and dating from 1557, has an early Baroque gable; it was built in a swamp and founded on oak trunks. The surviving residential building with its mill room is a historically valuable part of an originally larger building complex.

The fortress preserves a tall and slender roof structure that originally belonged to it and is considered an exceptional historical monument. On the northeastern outskirts of Budkov, on Class III Road No. 144 at kilometre 3.965, there is a stone road bridge spanning the Libotyňský Stream. Budkov is also home to a stone two-arch bridge dating from the 16th century.

Next to House No. 14, hand-carved wooden beehives from 1910 have been preserved.

Landscape and Remembrance

South of Budkov, at the edge of the forest, lie the remains of 16 Slavic burial mounds. They form part of the important South Bohemian–Austrian burial mound region.

The Old Lime Tree in Budkov is approximately 300 years old, 29 metres tall and has a trunk circumference of about 628 centimetres. Next to the Old Lime Tree stands a chapel commemorating the French soldiers who fell during the Napoleonic Wars.

Routes

The Netolice–Vlachovo Březí cycle route passes via the Budkov turn-off and then continues to Chocholatá Lhota. It is just under 20 kilometres long overall, moderately difficult and suitable for trekking bikes and mountain bikes.

A marked tourist route suitable for hiking also passes through Budkov. The “Krajem cestovatele Vyšaty a pošumavských menhirů” cycle route also passes through Budkov.
