Bohunice U Tvrzic: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Tvrzice combines architectural history and landscape in a small, richly detailed village setting. Preserved buildings, medieval traces and the rural surroundings stand closely alongside one another.

Architectural Heritage

Several buildings from the later creative period of the popular folk architect Jakub Bursa have been preserved in Tvrzice: the farmstead No. 7 from 1860, the former inn No. 9 from 1862 and the farmstead No. 11 from 1862. Farmstead No. 7 is one of the village’s three buildings protected as cultural monuments of the Czech Republic and has an originally yellow-and-blue gable. No. 9 was formerly an inn and has since been converted. No. 11 features a winged volute gable with a folk-style painting.

Culture and History

The first written reference to Tvrzice dates from 1315 and documents the foundation of “Twrzicze” by Queen Eliška Přemyslovna, the wife of John of Luxembourg. Tvrzice also had a medieval fortress. According to local history, it stood on the site of the present-day farmstead; other sources, however, place it on Hůrka.

In the wider regional surroundings of Tvrzice lies the ruin known as “Radomysl Mediumwave Radio Mast”. The ancient site of Chlumany is also located there.

Landscape

Tvrzice is characterised by a harmonious rural landscape shaped by the network of paths and by watercourses with accompanying greenery. Volovický vrch mountain is located in the surroundings of Tvrzice. The mountains Včelenský vrch, Libín and Boubín are also situated in the wider regional surroundings.
