Bohumilice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Bohumilice is located in the Šumava foothills on the right-hand side of the Volyňka Valley.

Landscape and Trails

The Bohumilice Linden Avenue lines the road from Bohumilice to Bošice. It contains 76 linden trees, estimated to be 150 years old. A viewing point along the avenue, which is just under one kilometre long, offers seating for visitors.

A 27-kilometre hiking trail marked in yellow and blue runs from Mařský vrch to Stachy through Bohumilice. In the vicinity of Bohumilice, the northern section of the Sudslavický Circuit passes through the Opolenec Nature Reserve and through wooded, rocky terrain. The Sudslavický Circuit provides information about the local history of limestone quarrying and lime production, as well as the historic use of a stream’s water power through a cascade of mills and other facilities.

Culture and History

The Church of the Holy Trinity dates from the mid-13th century; the archaeological site at the church is located in the cemetery on the eastern edge of Bohumilice. Karel Klostermann wrote the novel “Strejček z nebe” in Bohumilice.

Zámek Skalice preserves substantial parts of a Renaissance fortress built in 1549. The entire chateau complex, with its extensive park, is used year-round as an equestrian facility and offers riding lessons. The exhibition there currently includes a meteorite replica. The complex can be visited by prior telephone appointment.

Getting Around

The Sudslavická Trail runs around Bohumilice v Čechách railway station; due to a recent landslide on a staircase, it is currently not fully accessible. Bohumilice has the “Bohumilice rozcestí” bus stop.
