Zábrdí: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Zábrdí lies above the Blanice River in a varied landscape at an average altitude of 642 metres above sea level.

Nature and Landscape

The Blanice River and its surroundings are protected because of its natural river course with a sandy to gravelly bed substrate. At a crossroads on the western edge of the village stands a black locust tree protected as a natural monument, next to a cross bearing the year 1871.

A site with a rich population of lesser butterfly orchids is protected in the V polích nature reserve. Zábrdská Cave lies below the road to the mill.

Volovický vrch Mountain lies in the immediate vicinity of Zábrdí. The mountains Včelenský vrch, Libín and Bobík are also located around the village.

History and the Name of the Village

Zábrdí was one of the villages mentioned in a document issued in 1359 concerning the enfeoffment of Petr of Janovice and his heirs with estates.

The name Zábrdí refers to a village located behind a hill, or behind the Brd.

Josef Hasil, who was referred to as the “King of the Bohemian Forest”, was born on 8 February 1924 in Zábrdí u Prachatic. He was a former smuggler in the Bohemian Forest and later an agent of the American intelligence service CIC.

Museum and Regional Traces

The Museum of Paper Nativity Scenes in Zábrdí u Husince is open daily, seven days a week, and houses a collection of almost 900 nativity scenes from around the world; 99 per cent of them are paper nativity scenes.

The ancient site of Chlumany is located in the wider regional surroundings of Zábrdí.
