Zbytiny: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Zbytiny combines tangible walking experiences with historical traces and village culture. The Matýskova Trail is particularly vivid: this educational and experiential trail leads from Zbytiny to the abandoned settlement of Mošna, is 1.3 km long, includes nine stations, and is designed for the whole family.
Trails and Nature
Two cycling routes of different lengths pass through Zbytiny. The 43 km-long Cycle Route 1055 runs from Prachatice via Libínské sedlo and Volary to Soumarský most. The 32 km-long Cycle Route VI runs from Kříž V. u Chrobol via Skříněřov, Tetřívčí potok, Arnoštov and Záhvozdí to Pěkná; both routes pass through Zbytiny.
A protected-area project in NPP Blanice is located in the cadastral area of Zbytiny. It aims to improve the living conditions of the critically endangered freshwater pearl mussel and support its natural development cycle.
History and Traces
The village's railway history dates back to 1899: that was when the first train reached Zbytiny, and the Prachatice–Volary railway line was opened at the same time. Trains ran on the former forest railway until 1963; it was subsequently closed.
Culture
The Church of St. Vitus is originally Gothic and dates from the 14th century. It was rebuilt after the village fire of 1738. The western moulded portal of the original building has been preserved at the Church of St. Vitus.
Svatá Magdalena is a pilgrimage site. The pilgrimage takes place every year on the Sunday following the feast of Saint Magdalene on 22 July.
Staročeská konopická is a harvest festival custom in Zbytiny associated with the harvesting of flax, originally hemp. At the same time, it is an old village entertainment custom reserved for girls and women. The “South of heaven open air” festival was also held in Zbytiny for the fourth time, at Zbytinský lom.
