Vimperk: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Vimperk combines a medieval castle landscape with walks through the town and routes into the surrounding area. Vimperk Castle stands above the town, while historic fortifications, a museum and scenic routes open up the town from different perspectives.

History and Architecture

Vimperk Castle was probably founded around the middle of the 13th century as a guard fortress above an ancient route from Bavaria to Bohemia. Haselburg was built in the 15th century as an outlying fortification. Six bastions remain from Vimperk’s late medieval town fortifications, and the Church of St Bartholomew is regarded as the town’s oldest sacred building.

At Vimperk Castle, the “Středověk” tour covers the period when Vimperk, as a castle, guarded the Golden Trail. The Muzeum Vimperska also offers 18 routes for getting to know Vimperk and its surroundings.

Walks and Landscape

The Vycházkový okruh Vimperkem leads to a viewpoint with a panoramic view of Vimperk and its castle. The Vycházkový okruh okolo Vimperka runs through the Volyňka valley along a red-marked cycle route to a large four-arch railway viaduct over the Klášterec valley.

The named mountains Kamenná hora, Včelenský vrch, Boubín and Popelná hora are located in the vicinity of Vimperk. Chlumany, a named ancient site, is located in the wider regional surroundings of Vimperk.

Cycle Route and Orientation

The Cyklotrasa Volyňka is 46.5 km long and has six rest areas for cyclists.

The car park on Pivovarská ulice is located below Vimperk Castle, opposite the grammar school. The information centre, the castle, sights, shops and services are all within reach. The car park offers 30 to 35 parking spaces.
